Several attorneys at Hamilton Wingo, LLP volunteered to teach at middle and high school classrooms within Dallas ISD as part of the Dallas Bar Association’s Law in the Schools Program. Attorneys Chris Hamilton, Angela Pacheco, and Meagan Martin gave interactive presentations showing how our First Amendment freedoms are still being defined today. Students debated whether sagging pants constituted a free speech act and whether that should be limited in schools. As part of Dallas ISD’s continuing effort to combat bullying, the attorneys also worked with the middle school students to draft and debate proposed legislation to prevent and punish bullying. Finally, students had lots of questions about how to become an attorney and what a career in the law looks like. Chris, Angela, and Meagan shared their stories about how they became lawyers and how it has been a great privilege to serve our community and protect the rights of others through advocacy and the law.
