When someone suffers a catastrophic injury or a family loses a loved one, the first lawyer they meet matters. At Hamilton Wingo, one of the first people many families meet is partner Paul Wingo, a fourth-generation Texan who built his career around standing with people in their hardest moments.
In his own words, Paul “always knew that I wanted to have a law firm and that I wanted to work for the people.” That simple idea guides everything he does here, from the first phone call after a tragedy to the final steps after a case resolves.
Hear Paul tell his story himself:
From Billboard Law To Fighting For People
In the video, Paul talks openly about how he started his career at what he calls one of the “crazy billboard advertising lawyers” shops. Cases moved fast. The work felt “boom, boom, boom.” It was high volume and driven by constant marketing.
Even in that environment, certain cases stood out. As he explains, “What I found in that universe is that the cases that resonated with me were the ones that were people who were catastrophically injured.” Those clients, and their stories, stayed with him.
That realization pushed him to make a change. After several years at his first job, he walked away on a Friday with no guarantee of what came next, only a clear sense that he needed to practice law in a different way—one that put fewer people, but more of his heart, at the center of each case.
Meeting Chris Hamilton & Blazing A New Trail
Paul shares a turning point that reshaped his career and, eventually, our firm. The Monday after he left his old job, “one of the most powerful lawyers in Texas” reached out and said, “hey, you need to meet my friend Chris.”
That friend was our founding trial lawyer, Chris Hamilton. Paul remembers, “We met that Friday. And it was just immediate fascination and kind of realizing that we were the other side of the coin for each other.” Chris had already been working on really big cases. Paul brought years of personal injury work and a deep pull toward catastrophic injury cases.
As Paul puts it, “He had been working on really big cases, and we were able to combine our powers to be able to really work on a whole variety of important cases for a lot of people. And so we combined forces and just blazing a trail since then.”
That shared commitment to major, high-stakes cases is a big part of what defines Hamilton Wingo today. We choose a smaller number of the most serious cases so we can pour our full energy into each one—and Paul has been central to that vision.
Why Paul Leads Our Rapid Response
When tragedy strikes, families often feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure where to turn. That is where Paul steps in. As the rapid-response leader of the firm, he helps families work through the critical decisions that come in the first days and weeks after catastrophic injuries or loss of life.
He does more than outline legal options. He listens. He builds close, personal relationships with people who have been devastated by tragedy and makes sure their voices do not get lost in the process. That personal connection is not an afterthought; it is the heart of how he practices law.
Once a case reaches a resolution, his role shifts but does not end. Significant recoveries can feel like an “alien” world to many families. Paul walks them through what these results mean so they can focus on what matters most: healing and creating a new future out of what they have survived.
Storytelling, Photography & The Courtroom
Paul’s work does not stop at negotiation tables or legal briefs. He brings an additional layer to our trial practice through his renowned photography and videography skills. Those tools help him tell clients’ stories in a way juries can see and feel, not just hear about.
When he talks in the video about combining powers and blazing a trail, that idea shows up here too. At Hamilton Wingo, we focus on courtroom excellence. Paul adds visual storytelling to that foundation so jurors understand not only what happened, but who it happened to and how it changed a life forever.
Results, Recognition & A Texas Foundation
Over more than a decade of personal injury work, Paul has earned a reputation as a top negotiator. He has successfully resolved hundreds of millions of dollars in claims for injured people and their families. Those numbers reflect what drives him: creating real, tangible change for clients who face life-altering harm.
His work has also drawn attention beyond the courtroom. Paul has been featured in and has written numerous articles and publications. He speaks across Texas on topics like negotiations, lawyer wellness, and legal philosophy, sharing what he has learned with other lawyers and the broader legal community.
His path to the courtroom started with a strong academic record:
- University of Houston Law Center, J.D.
- University of North Texas, B.B.A. with honors
- Weatherford College, A.A. with cum laude honors
He holds admissions in the State Bar of Texas and all four United States District Courts in Texas—the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts—so he can stand up for injured Texans in courts across the state.
Along the way, Paul has earned recognition from peers and independent rating organizations, including Best Lawyers in America, Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine, Texas Super Lawyers and Texas Super Lawyers – Rising Stars by Thomson Reuters, and Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers (2025). Earlier in his career, he clerked for the Honorable Juan F. Vasquez of the United States Tax Court and served as Editor of the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal.
His leadership roots run deep. In school, he served as student body president at Weatherford College, president of the Council of Business Students at the University of North Texas, and a member of the Delta Sigma Pi business honors fraternity. That history of stepping into responsibility carries through to how he leads on behalf of our clients today.
How Paul Embodies Our Firm’s Mission
At Hamilton Wingo, we focus on a limited number of serious cases so every client gets the full power and attention of our team. Paul fits that mission in a natural way. From his first job in “boom, boom, boom” billboard law to the day he chose to join forces with Chris Hamilton, his path has been about one thing: putting people at the center of major cases.
He brings together several qualities our clients rely on:
- Deep Commitment To Catastrophic Injury Cases: He seeks out the hardest, most life-changing matters because those are the people who most need a strong voice.
- Rapid, Hands-On Support: Families meet him early, often within days of an injury or loss, and he stays with them as they make crucial choices.
- Powerful Negotiation Skills: His track record of resolving hundreds of millions of dollars in claims helps clients secure resources to rebuild.
- Human, Visual Storytelling: Through photography and videography, he helps juries understand the real impact of a tragedy.
- Ongoing Care After The Case: He guides clients through the unfamiliar world of significant recoveries so they can focus on healing.
When the stakes are highest, clients need more than a name on a door. They need someone who will listen, move quickly, and tell their story with care and conviction. That is the role Paul plays on our team and in courtrooms across Texas.
